Webflow lands in Codex and ChatGPT: your sites, powered by OpenAI

TL;DR

Webflow announces that its MCP capabilities are now accessible from Codex and ChatGPT, with built-in AI skills to audit, manage the CMS and ship code without ever leaving the OpenAI ecosystem.

Thanks to MCP 2.0, Webflow now plugs directly into OpenAI tools to manage content, audits and development

Webflow moves into Codex and ChatGPT: what it actually changes

Webflow keeps pushing forward on AI. After launching MCP 2.0, the platform takes another step: its site management capabilities are now accessible directly from Codex and ChatGPT. In practice, you can now manage your Webflow site without even opening Webflow. Here is the breakdown.

What exactly are we talking about?

Webflow's MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets AI agents act on a site with full context of the design system and CMS data. Until now, this power stayed confined to the Webflow ecosystem. With this update, it extends to two of OpenAI's flagship tools: Codex, built for developers, and ChatGPT, used by pretty much everyone.

In other words, your team can now ask ChatGPT to audit a site, update a CMS collection or prepare a publish, all from within a conversation, without ever navigating the Webflow interface.

The available AI skills

Webflow highlights four families of built-in capabilities, designed to follow the platform's best practices:

  • Site audits: SEO, AEO, accessibility, broken links, performance and optimization opportunities
  • CMS management: creating, updating and organizing collections and content
  • Safe publishing: validating changes before they go live, handling custom code without breaking the site
  • Developer workflows: creating projects, reusable components, extensions, deploying apps

To get started, simply connect your Webflow workspace from ChatGPT or Codex, and grant access to the relevant sites.

Use case Before With Codex/ChatGPT
SEO/AEO audit Manual, in the Designer or via third-party tools On demand, in natural language
CMS update Manual entry in the Webflow interface Automated via prompt
Development Direct code in the Webflow environment Assisted scaffolding from Codex

Worth noting: this integration is currently free and does not consume any AI credits. Webflow does warn, however, that some actions may require credits in the future as capabilities expand.

Mazette.co's take

So, good news or just another gadget? At Mazette.co, we clearly lean toward the positive, with a few caveats.

First, the logic makes sense. Webflow is not reinventing the wheel here, it is extending the reach of its MCP to tools your teams already use extensively. That is exactly the right approach: instead of forcing a new tool on you, the platform comes to you. For an agency like ours, that means being able to delegate certain repetitive tasks (audits, pre-publish checks, CMS tweaks) to an AI agent, while keeping full control over strategic decisions.

Second, the built-in audit feature really speaks to us. Checking a site's SEO and AEO directly from ChatGPT is a genuine time-saver on recurring follow-up work. As we already mentioned in our article on Webflow AEO Analytics opening up to Claude and Gemini, visibility in generative engines is becoming a central issue, and Webflow is methodically building its ecosystem around it.

The point worth watching closely is access management and security. Giving an AI agent the ability to publish or modify custom code on a live site calls for solid safeguards. Webflow talks about "safe publishing" with validation before going live, which is reassuring, but we will always recommend our clients test these automations on a staging environment before rolling them out broadly.

Finally, the fact that it is free and does not consume AI credits for now makes it an excellent entry point. This is the perfect time to experiment, with no financial risk, and see where these workflows genuinely add value for your team.

What this means for your site

If your Webflow site is already well structured, with a clean CMS and clear content governance, this integration can quickly become an accelerator for your audits and maintenance. If your site's architecture is still a bit rough around the edges, it is better to shore up the foundations first before handing tasks over to an AI agent. As always, technology amplifies what is already there, for better or worse.
