The llms.txt file is a standardized file, placed at the root of a site, that tells AI language models which content on the site is a priority to consult and how to interpret it. It plays a role comparable to the historic robots.txt, but designed specifically for the era of generative AI rather than traditional search engines. It is still an emerging practice, increasingly integrated into AEO/GEO strategies.
Code
Over 180 companies have already stepped out of the shadows with us.
It gives AI models a curated map of your site: which pages matter and what they contain, in clean Markdown. It is a proposed convention, not an enforced standard, so no AI system is guaranteed to follow it.
Write a Markdown file named llms.txt with an H1 for the site name, a one or two line summary in a blockquote, then sections of links with a short description for each key page. Publish it at the site root so it loads at yourdomain.com/llms.txt.
